Architecture of Washington, D.C. MFE 2853
This publication is the initial step in a program sponsored by The Dunlap Society to document visually all aspects of American art.
Included for each of the Washington buildings selected for inclusion in this collection are all known early drawings, prints, and
photographs of the setting, interior, and exterior. Editing has occurred only when the available images were so repetitive that complete
inclusion was not warranted. The modern material included was created by professional photographers working with architectural
historians and was designed to convey the experience of visiting the building through multiple views and details. Chronology,
statistics, and a written description are included for each building.
Format: Microfiche
Access: Kept in notebooks with MFE guides.
County Court Houses of the United States MFE 2851
The county court house is the single most important regional building type in the U.S. It has become an analogy for the history
of each county, reflecting its social climate and aspirations. This microfiche album is the record of the County Court House
Project of Joseph E. Seagram and Sons, Inc., conducted as the corporation's gift to the nation for the Bicentennial. The aim of
the project was to produce a cross section of American architecture from geographical and historical points of view. It contains
6,690 photographs of 1,092 court houses (about one third of the counties) taken during 1975-1978. Published by the Dunlap
Society as part of its program of visually documenting all aspects of American Art. The original collection is housed in the
Library of Congress.
Historic American Buildings Survey MFE 2474
The Historic American Buildings Survey is a continuing program begun in 1933 to assemble a comprehensive record of historic
American architecture. It is a co-operative effort of the National Park Service, Library of Congress, and the American Institute of
Architects. The original records, which include photographs and drawings and sometimes historical data and architectural descriptions,
are in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. They represent every facet of the building art in all 50 states,
District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Virgin Islands from the pre-Columbian time to the age of the skyscraper. The microfiche
collection of approximately 1600 microfiche includes materials received by the Library of Congress to the end of 1979.
