General Tips

1. This guide focuses on collections that have been published for wide distribution. However, many libraries, particularly state libraries and historical society libraries, have unique microform collections. Citations to these collections are not included in this guide.
2. Microform collections can often be obtained through a library's interlibrary loan department.
3. Most microform collections include a collection guide. Read this guide to determine the scope and organization of the collection.
4. Reviews of microform collections provide insights into how these collections can be used in research. Therefore, references to reviews in The Journal of American History and Microform Review appear after many of the citations to specific collections.
