ERIC: An Education Database:
The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) was established in 1966 to facilitate access to educational literature. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the ERIC National Education Information Network consists of sixteen Clearinghouses and four Adjunct Clearinghouses located primarily at universities and educational associations. Each Clearinghouse is responsible for collecting, indexing, and abstracting materials covering its assigned subject area. The end results are published in either the Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE) or in Resources in Education (RIE). The CIJE indexes over 830 educational journals. The RIE indexes a wide array of unpublished documents which can include conference proceedings, research reports, speeches, and curriculum guides. The library subscribes to the RIE collection of documents on microfiche.
ERIC on CD-ROM allows users to simultaneously search both
the
CIJE and the RIE files, quickly search
multiple years and to combine multiple search terms to obtain tailored
results. See the guide, Using ERIC on CD-ROM, located at the
CD-ROM Center, for an excellent introduction to this valuable database.
