Construction of Middle Tennessee State University's new Central Library began following a gala groundbreaking ceremony on September 11, 1996 which was part of the 85th Anniversary Celebration for MTSU. The library was designed by the joint venture architecture team of Thomas, Miller and Partners and I.C. Thomasson and Associates. They were assisted in the layout and design of the building by Consultant David Kaser and the New Library Staff Planning Committee.
Those on this Committee included Don Craig, Dean of the Library; Linda Gill, Coordinator of User Services; Karen Bingham, Coordinator of Technical Services; David Robinson, Automation Librarian; Sue Thetford, Curriculum Librarian; Sharon Parente, User Services Librarian; Sue Burkheart, Technical Services Librarian; and Jo Anne Minnick, Library Assistant.
A New Library Project Team consisting of faculty, administration, staff and students also assisted in the design and planning of the library. The members of this team include Karen Bingham, Don Craig, Al Cripps, Ellen Donovan, Norman Ferris, Kay Fossick, Carolyn Hopper, Geoffrey Hull, Lucinda Lea, Patty Miller, Bill Parker, Thomas Tang, Terry Whiteside, and Robert Woodworth.
Together, these teams have designed a state-of-the-art facility to serve the rapidly growing population of Middle Tennessee State University. It was constructed by Hardaway Construction and occupied in January 1999.
