Title: Poetry Takes The Main Stage

 

Grade Level: 11th Grade

 

Long Range Objective: State State standard 2.3B – differentiate between mood and tone in poetry.

 

Set: The teacher will describe the idea of a webquest and introduce the importance of technology in the classroom to the students.  This will ensure the students understand they are not simply using the computer for something they could be doing on paper and with pencil.

 

Learning Objectives: (1) Identify an example of simile in a poem. (2) Define Simile.  (3) Identify an example of personification in a poem.  (4) Define personification.  (5) Determine which poem/song to use based upon previous poetry knowledge.  (6) Present and explain decision to class.

 

Instructional Procedures: A Webquest based upon the Grammy’s.  The student will pick two songs or poems from a given list to either be played or recited at the Grammy’s.

 

Guided Practice: Student’s will decide which song/poem is most appropriate and liked to play or recite at the Grammy’s. 

 

Check for Understanding:  The teacher will check for understanding during the presentations given by each student.

 

Materials: Enough computers so groups of 4 can have access.

 

Closing:  The class will end with each presentation being given and explained.
