W.r.t. Chapter Six, you need to know:

  1. how to identify MAJOR, MINOR, and MIDDLE terms
  2. how to put a categorical syllogism into standard form
  3. how to determine MOOD and FIGURE
  4. how to use Venn Diagrams to determine validity
  5. the six syllogistic fallacies, section 6.6 (one question)

 

W.r.t. Chapter Seven, you need to know:

  1. how to reduce deviant syllogisms to standard form by using obversion, conversion and/or contraposition and/or the 9 guidelines
  2. what a PARAMETER is
  3. how to test enthymemes for validity and how to determine if they are 1st, 2nd, or 3rd order
  4. how to do the exercises on p. 283ff

 

The extra credit will be in class this time.  (I will probably give you a difficult enthymeme.)
