MSDI POLICIES
Hotel
- Do not trash the hotel rooms. You will be billed for additional
cleanup charges as well as for any damages to your assigned room.
- Please smoke only in designated smoking areas and rooms.
- Please keep noise levels down. Remember, there will be other guests
in the hotel while we are there. Please try to be respectful of them.
- Because there may be non-Institute guests at the hotel, please dress
and behave appropriately while in the halls.
- Food at the hotel: there is a restaurant list in your camp folder;
many of these places offer delivery and carry-out services. Many fast
food and other restaurants are close to the hotel. Plus, each room is
equipped with a kitchenette.
- Laundry: there are laundry facilities in the Crestwood Suites.
Campus
- Please treat our campus with kindness. Put your litter in appropriate
containers, and please remember that summer classes are still in
session--keep the noise level down in occupied buildings.
- MTSU is a dry campus. There is no alcohol allowed on school property
at any time. If you are found with alcohol in your possession while on
school grounds, you will be escorted from the premises.
- There is no food or drink allowed in the following areas: the Studio
Theatre (BDA 101), the Cason-Kennedy Nursing Building, BDA 309, the MTSU
Library, and the Business and Aerospace Building.
Lab Rooms
- Groups are responsible for maintaining their lab rooms. We have made
arrangements with the custodial staff to leave the rooms untouched for the
duration of the Institute. Lab leaders will be responsible for overseeing
a final lab room cleanup at the end of camp. However, food and beverages
must be disposed of daily.
- If you have trash you want the custodial staff to pick up, put it in
the room trash can and leave it outside your lab room door.
- Please be nice to the custodial staff, faculty, and clerical staff.
They have done a tremendous amount of work to help put the Institute
together.
Parking and Driving on Campus
- If you have a vehicle parked on campus, you will need to see Russ
Church or Gina Lane for a parking pass. The pass will be valid through
the end of camp, and will permit you to park in lots designated black,
green, or white. You may not park in handicapped spaces, by parking
meters, in reserved spaces, or by yellow curbs. You will be ticketed
and/or towed if you park in any of these areas.
- Due to sandblasting, construction, or a whim of the parking authority,
certain lots may be off limits. These areas will be indicated by barriers
or signs. If you park in one of these areas and your car is towed, MSDI
will not assume the cost of bailing it out.
- Be very careful while driving on campus. If you get a speeding ticket
or other moving violation on campus, it will be extremely expensive.
Tickets are issued by the state of Tennessee, and they will track you down
if you don't pay them.
Health Services
- The MTSU clinic (898-2988) is available free of charge to campers and
staff. The hours are 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday. A nurse or
physician will see you and write you a prescription if necessary. MSDI
will provide transportation to and from a pharmacy. You are responsible
for the charges. For more serious illnesses or weekend care, we will
provide transportation to a local walk-in clinic or the emergency room.
Contact a staff member if you are ill.
Return Transportation to the Airport
- Please confirm your return flights with your airline and with the
Institute staff: Gina, Russ, Ben, or Drew. We will probably have a sign-up
sheet near the end of camp. Check with your lab leader.
Illegal Substances
- The use or possession of illegal substances or dangerous items
(illegal drugs, weapons, etc.) by staff or participants of the Mid-South
Debate institute will not be tolerated. Violators will be subject to
appropriate legal action, and will be asked to leave the Institute. MSDI
will not be responsible for transportation costs for those asked to leave
the Institute early, and no refunds will be given.
