Step
1: You have an interest in the MTSU Study Abroad programs.
Complete the FERPA
Waiver
and Study Abroad Preliminary Form,
the initial contact form for all students who visit the MTSU Study
Abroad Program. It asks questions about foreign language, financial
aid, etc and helps the staff to identify your needs.
Step
2: You will attend a Study Abroad session.
Sessions are offered every fall and spring semester. In the session,
you will get an opportunity to discuss what you would like to
do and our staff will help you pick the right program for your
needs.
Step
3: ONLY IF YOU NEED FINANCIAL AID FOR YOUR PROGRAM: Fill
out Financial Aid form and attend
a Financial Aid information session about study abroad. See calendar
for session dates.
Step
4: Choose a program and Apply. Process
of application depends on program specifics. Below is a general
overview. However, please refer to your particular program application
materials for details.
Turn in
application, if you are applying for:
CCSA:
Turn in your completed application along with $200 deposit check
or money order to the International Education and Exchange Office.
KIIS:
Turn in a copy of your completed application and essay to the
International Education and Exchange Office. KIIS also requires
a faculty letter of recommendation and an official MTSU transcript
to be mailed to KIIS headquarters directly.
Faculty-led:
You will need to contact the faculty director of the program
for application information.
Independent:
We will need a copy of your application before you send it to
the program. Also when you get a letter of acceptance, our office
will need a copy of it before approval of the program is granted.
Step
5: You will be notified by the program of acceptance
within a few weeks of the application deadline. (Program notification
may vary from program to program.) In addition to forms required
by the program that you applied for, you will also receive a packet
of required forms from our office before the pre-departure orientation.
These forms may include, but are not limited to, passports, flight
itinerary, medical history, proof of insurance, discipline authorization,
agreements, and contracts.
Step
6: You will be required to attend a pre-departure
orientation as a final prep for study abroad. (KIIS students
are exempt form MTSU pre-departure orientation due to a mandatory
KIIS orientation in Kentucky.) All necessary documents must be
completed before you leave for your program including final payments.
Step
7: Congratulations! You depart for your study abroad
program. Bon Voyage!
Step
8: You return from your program and attend a mandatory
re-orientation program, which will include program and faculty
evaluations. Failure to attend will result in a hold on your student
account.
Step
9: You may elect to participate in recruitment strategies:
fairs, classroom visits, etc… with the MTSU G.L.O.B.A.L.
program. (Information is available in the International Education
and Exchange Office.)
