Associate Professor, Orchestra Carol Nies, music director of the MTSU Symphony Orchestra and music director and conductor of the Curb Youth Symphony has served as a cover conductor and conducting assistant for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. She has also served as the associate conductor and assistant conductor of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, guest conductor of the Rome Festival Orchestra and Rome Festival Opera, conductor of the Governor’s School for the Arts Orchestra (Tennessee), assistant conductor of the Opera Theater of Lucca (Italy), conductor and music director of Opera-To-Go, conductor and music director of the Cincinnati Contemporary Music Ensemble, conductor of the Greater New Haven Youth Symphony, conductor of the New Haven Summer Orchestra, conductor of the Branford Chamber Orchestra (Yale University), assistant conductor of the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra (University of Cincinnati), and has conducted at the International Conductors Workshop in the Czech Republic. Guest conducting engagements have included concerts with the Hradec Kralove Philharmonic (Czech Republic), the Black Sea Philharmonic (Romania), the River Cities Symphony (Ohio and West Virginia) and Music Under Construction (Contemporary Music Series, New York City). She will return as guest conductor of the Rome Festival Orchestra and Rome Festival Opera for the 2007 season. Nies received a DMA in Orchestral Conducting from the College-Conservatory of Music (University of Cincinnati), a Professional Studies Diploma in Orchestral Conducting from the Mannes College of Music, a MM (Double Bass) from the Yale School of Music, and a BM from the University of Miami.
