Barbara Reeder Lundquist, Professor of Music Education - Barbara is literally a force of nature. Her dynamism pulls you into learning in wonderful ways. I attribute my deep and abiding interest in world music to Barbara's inspiration. She risked to explore West African drumming on a deep level in the mid-60s, way before others were exploring the teaching of world music. She not only drummed with her students but began offering workshops for teachers. She, more than any of my female professors, was a model of what was possible for women in higher education as teachers, leaders, and scholars. She was enough ahead of me in age that she served as a beacon of what was next in my professional journey. She continues to inspire me with her quick mind, probing questions, and wonderful laugh.
