SERVICES: SCHOLARSHIPS
The OWLs student organization distributes four different types of scholarships each year. There are ten Academic Service Scholarships for students with a GPA higher than 3.00 and two OWLs Challenge Scholarships for students whose GPA falls between 2.5 and 2.99. There are also two scholarships funded by Marcus Nickell in honor of his two daughters who returned to college as nontraditional students to earn teaching degrees. See the details below.

OWLs
Academic Service Scholarships
The OWLs at MTSU have ten Academic Service Scholarships to distribute each year. These scholarships provide $1,500 per semester and require five hours per week of work on campus, normally in our Off-Campus Student Services office or in an office associated with your major. These scholarships are renewable for up to six semesters provided you maintain a 3.0 semester GPA and a 3.0 cumulative GPA each semester. You must be enrolled full-time (12 hours) while you are receiving this scholarship.
Application
criteria: You must be a U.S. citizen seeking your first
undergraduate degree. You must have already completed 9 hours
of courses at MTSU and currently have a 3.0 GPA or better. You
must also be an up-to-date dues-paying member of the OWLs organization to apply for
one of these scholarships.
OWLs
Challenge Scholarships
The OWLs offer two special OWLs Challenge Scholarships each
year. These scholarships provide $1,000 per semester for one
year only. You must be enrolled full-time (12 hours) while you
are receiving this scholarship.
Application
criteria: You must be a U.S. citizen seeking your first
undergraduate degree. You must have already completed 9 hours
of courses at MTSU and currently have a GPA between 2.5 and
2.99. You must also be an up-to-date dues-paying member of the OWLs organization to
apply for one of these scholarships.
Jane
Nickell Taylor Scholarship
This privately endowed scholarship provides $ 500 per semester
for one year only. It is designed for non-traditional female
students undergoing life changes and who are in their final
year working towards a degree.
Application
criteria: You must be a female classified as a senior who
is in a life transition. You must have a 2.9 GPA or better and
plan to enroll full time while you are receiving this scholarship.
Joan
Nickell Bailey Scholarship
This privately endowed scholarship provides $500 per semester
for one year only. It is designed for an adult learner seeking
a degree in elementary education who is in the final year of
classes.
Application
criteria: You must be classified as a senior who is majoring
in elementary education. You must have a 2.9 GPA or better and
plan to enroll full time while you are receiving this scholarship.
