Welcome. This is the home page of Paul D. Fischer Ph.D., Associate Professor in the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN (near Nashville). I am a member of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM), and serve on the Executive Committee of the United States branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM-US) as Publications Officer (I edit their newsletter).

I got my B.S. in Radio/TV/Film from Northwestern University in 1979, my M.A. in Popular Culture from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in 1981 (Thesis title: "The Case For Scholarly Study of Rock 'n' Roll: A Philosophy of Education"), and my Ph. D. in American Culture Studies for the same institution in 1995 (Dissertation Title: "Radical Pedagogy and the Interdiciplinary Revolution: Teaching Youth Culture for the Twenty First Century"). Much of my work as a student and professional academic work relates to popular music, so I have taken to calling myself Docrock. For a while I thought that Ph.D. was going to stand for Pizza Hut Delivery, but I got lucky and landed one of the last tenure track jobs in America. I have a wife and two kids, and live in Nashville, Tennessee.
