Much of the scholarly work Docrock does is in the area known as Popular Music Studies. Popular Music Studies is transdisciplinary (you won't find a "Department of Popular Music Studies" anywhere), drawing on elements of history, sociology, anthropology, media studies, musicology, cultural studies and more. He is a member of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM) which holds a conference every other year (1999 Sydney, 2001 Mexico City) and its United States branch (IASPM-US) which holds a conference every year (1999 Murfreesboro, TN, 2000 Toronto, 2001 Chicago or New Orleans). Docrock edits the U.S. branch's Newsletter (e-mail for a copy of the most recent issue, or the next if there isn't one immediately available) and serves on its Executive Committee as a Publications Officer. IASPM-US also publishes the Journal of Popular Music Studies which comes out annually at present. To find out more check out the organizations' sites linked above.
