Administrative
Policies The Bookstore exists to serve the University community. Although Phillips Bookstore will not seek the patronage of the general public, such patronage is not rejected. The selling prices in the Bookstore will not be so low as to bring it into unfair competition with commercial enterprises that offer equal or similar merchandise, nor will the prices charged be higher than appropriate and required by good business practices. Because it is University-owned, the Bookstore must be managed as a part thereof; yet it must be self supporting and enjoy all the disadvantages and advantages of similar privately-operated establishments, including obtaining approval of all purchases, maintaining an internal system of accounting, managing the recruitment and dismissal of personnel, meeting operation expenses, and reflecting in its accounts the depreciation of furnishings and equipment. The Bookstore's principal objective is to service not philanthropy; commercial profit shall not be its objective. It is recognized, nevertheless, that profits may accrue. Privacy
