The total thrust (force) provided by the engines of a Boeing 747 is about 8.8 x 105 N.  The maximum lift-off mass of this aircraft is 3.0 x 105 kg.

(a) What is the greatest possible acceleration that can be produced by the engines during the take-off run for a maximum-mass aircraft?

(b) Starting from rest, how fast would the jet be moving after 15 s?  (Ignore any frictional effects.)

Answers: (a) 2.9 m/s2     (b) 44 m/s = 160 km/h
