UNIVERSITY SPONSORED RESEARCH

Obtaining external funding for projects, especially research projects can be a long and complex process.  Many agencies want to see a "track record" of research.  One of the ways a faculty member can develop this "track record" is to apply for internal research funding.  These programs then can be used as a springboard for later external funding for their projects.  The University has two internal research programs for which faculty may apply.

Faculty Research and Creative Projects Program is conducted by the Faculty Research and Creative Projects Committee (FRCPC) and administered by the College of Graduate Studies.  The purpose of the program is to provide funding for full-time, non-temporary faculty to conduct research inquiry and creative activity (henceforth, collectively referred to as "research").  These resources may be used for the dissemination of research information (i.e., page and publication charges), and/or as seed money for faculty to initiate extramurally sponsored research projects.  In addition, the program provides resources for research in areas related to teaching, such as teaching effectiveness, teaching methods, curricular design, learning styles, and evaluation techniques. Funding guidelines and procedures can be obtained from the College of Graduate Studies.

Summer Research and Creative Projects Program is conducted by the Faculty Research and Creative Projects Committee (FRCPC) and administered by the College of Graduate Studies.  The purpose of the summer program is to augment summer research and creative project opportunities for faculty by providing compensation for their endeavors.  While MTSU continues its commitment to teaching excellence, it is also striving to recognize the research and creative activities of its faculty.  The summer program complements the Faculty Research and Creative Projects Program by offering the possibility of year long support for meritorious projects.  Full-time non-temporary faculty who hold the rank of professor, associate professor or assistant professor and who will have completed one academic year at MTSU are eligible.  Twelve-month library faculty is also eligible for summer support.
