To make connecting to the Residential network easier we have created this little tutorial on how to connect your network connections in your room. Please follow these simple instructions, and your network connection will be up in a jiffy.

What You Need...

To connect to our residential network (ResNet), you will need the following:

1. An ethernet cable. Though an ethernet cable and a phone cord look very similar, they cannot be substituted. An ethernet cable has 8 connectors unlike a phone cord which has 4.
2. Ethernet Card (NIC card). Not sure if you have one? Check your computer. An ethernet connector on your computer looks like an extra wide phone jack. If you do not have these, you can purchase them at the campus bookstore or a local store (Wal-Mart, Radioshack, Target, etc). Most, if not all, computers have an ethernet card built in.

How to Connect

Once you have the necessary equipment, connect the ethernet cord to the computer. Then connect the other end of the cord to the room jack which looks exactly like the connector on your computer. Then, turn on your computer. Your connection should work automatically. For added security, MTSU has required that the following steps be taken before you can access the internet.

1. Open up a web browser. If this is your first time connecting, you will be taken through the registration steps.
2. You will be directed to page that processes for 30-60 seconds. A small box should pop up prompting your for your PipelineMT username and password.
3. After entering your password you will be directed to another processing page for 30-60 seconds.
4. At this point Windows users must download and install the NAC agent which will verify you computer is uptodate. Mac and Linux users may skip this step. Please note that 64-bit Windows users will need to call ITD or the HelpDesk for an exemption, as the agent is not compatible with 64-bit Windows.
5. The NAC agent will verify that your Windows updates are turned on and you have antivirus running, and that it is up to date. If any of these are not right the agent will give you a message saying Quarantined. You will have 10 attempts to bring your computer up to date.
6. If all goes smoothly, you should be online! Registration is a one-time process, so you shouldn't have to do it again.
