A $15 million Mass Communication building
completed in 1991 and the Photography Building make MTSU's
facilities some of the best
in the nation. Students get hands-on experience in television and radio
studios, linear and non-linear video editing facilities, a
mobile production lab, audio production labs, electronic
newsrooms, a 100,000 watt, NRP-affiliated FM, and a FCC licensed
student radio station. A cable channel can be viewed by regular
subscribers to Murfreesboro's cable TV system. Students run the station and make all
decisions, including budgeting, day-to-day operations, and hiring and firing. Four
30-minute newscasts air live four days a week and feature news from the campus and
community. A comedy talk show, a lifestyles program, movie reviews, a campus and community
issues exchange, a sports program, and music videos are weekly half-hour features.
On-the-job training, internships, special projects, and visiting media professionals round
out the learning experience. |
