HEALTH AND PSYCHOSOCIAL INSTRUMENTS (HAPI)

Health and Psychosocial Instruments provides access to information on measurement instruments in the fields of health, psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information science. HAPI includes such measurement instruments as tests, questionnaires, rating scales, and interview schedules. Both published and unpublished instruments are available, with the emphasis on unpublished instruments. Remember that you need copyright permission to use any of these tests.

SIMPLE SEARCH - in the default Advanced Search Mode

Type in the keyword or phrase - Click or press Return.

The results will appear in the Search History Table.

To view the retrieved records, click the Display link in the Search History.

Click "Abstract" to view the citation/abstract only. (Not in all records.)

Click "Complete Reference" to view all the available fields in the record.

 

LIMIT THE SEARCH

Quick Limit: Click in the box in front of Primary Source, Secondary Source or Latest Update.

Combine searches: Enter at least two searches into the search history.

Click on the icon.

Select the searches that are to be combined.

Decide whether to use "and" or "or" in the box above the Search History.

Click on "Combine Searches." Search is added to Search History.

Or use Boolean Operators, "AND," "OR," "NOT" "ADJ," "ADJn," or "FREQ" in the command line.

EX: children and preschool or (search number) 10 or IQ

Search in a specific field: There are two ways to do this.

Click on the icon at the top of the page. Enter a word or phrase.

Choose the field/s to be searched. Click on

Another option in "Search Fields" is to search the Index/s for the term/s.

Choose the term/s from the index and "Perform Search."

Search using Command Line Syntax: Limit your search directly on the command line.

Be very careful to include the proper punctuation.

x.yy.

Limits to a field. Example: Adolescence.de.

x.yy,zz.

Limits to more than one field. Example: Intelligence.ti,de.

..pg x

Purges a specific search set. Example: ..pg 4 purges set 4 or ..pg all purges all sets (Be careful, when using the browser's "Back" feature, the results could be unpredictable.)

Ends your search and returns you to the login page

 

Truncation and Wild Cards

Unlimited Truncation - Use a dollar sign ($) or a colon (:) at the end of the root word. Example: intell$ finds intelligent, intelligence, intellect, intellectual, etc.

Limited Truncation - Specify the maximum number of characters that may follow the root word. Example: child:3 will retrieve child and children but not childhood.

Wild Card - The pound sign or hash mark (#) replaces one character either within or at the end of a word. Example: wom#n finds woman and women.

Author Search

Click on the icon. Enter the last name of the author and the first initial (if it is known). In the resulting index, click the checkbox next to all applicable names. Click Command line syntax is "Smith.au.".

Title Search

Click on the icon. Enter the whole title or some keywords from the title. Click Command line syntax is "Intelligence test.ti."

 

OTHER ICONS

The only limit specification at this time is to limit the search to only the newest updated version of the database. Useful only if the most recent material is needed

Only keyword and author searches are available here, no index or thesaurus access. Does not give a search history, but any searches performed in this option will transfer to the Advanced mode search history.

Information Icon gives information about the function near it.

Very important!! We have only one subscription to this database and if you do not logoff no one else can use the database until your search "times out." This usually takes at least ten minutes.

PRINT/EMAIL/DOWNLOAD

The Citation Manager is found at the bottom of the titles display page. Printing, Downloading, and Emailing are done here. Select your options.

Print

Press the "Display" button at the far right of the Citation Manager. The selected records and search history (if selected) are displayed. Use the Print option on the browser to print.

Email

Press the "Email" button. A screen for entering a "send to" address appears. Unless it is being sent to someone other than yourself, it is not necessary to change the "from" line. Fill in a subject.

Download

Press the "Save" button. The browser's save screen appears.
