HISTORY OF SCIENTIA
SCIENTIA: The Journal of Student Research grew out of a proposal made by Dr. Philip M. Mathis, professor of biology, to Dean Earl E. Keese and the department chairs in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences during the fall semester, 1996. After approval of the initial concept, Dean Keese appointed Dr. Judith Hankins, professor of computer science, and Dr. Mathis to develop a Web Site and detailed operational plan to include broad student and faculty involvement. With a small grant from the dean's office, Hankins and Mathis contacted John D. Clark, a student in computer science, to work with them in developing the initial Web Site.

On March 5, 1997, Dean Keese appointed the first Board of Faculty Facilitators. Named to the Board as "Charter Members" were: Drs. Hankins and Mathis (Honorary Editors), Dr. John D. DuBois (Consulting Editor), Dr. William Herrick (Aerospace), Dr. Jonathan L. Beckett (Agriscience), Dr. Deborah C. Clark (Biology), Dr. Linda A. Wilson (Chemistry), Dr. Jungsoon Yoo (Computer Science), Dr. Basavapatna S. Sridhara (Engineering Technology), Dr. Yuri A. Melnikov (Mathematical), Major Christopher D. Scalia (Milit ary Science), Dr. Stephen Krau (Nursing), and Dr. William M. Robertson (Physics and Astronomy).
