The Formative Years by Cristina Miller
She trudges through her hall of shame
and confronts who she's been.
It seems the whole world has seen her
story posted between her legs
like a neon-yellow Waffle House sign.
Years of "c'mon, it's no big deal;"
Years of working it like a Communist spy
result in the blank stare of the easy lay.
She longs to be a woman.
She longs to change that moment years ago
when her body and soul screamed, "NO!"
but it only came out as a whisper.
