Mystery in Costume
By Maya Nitis

You must carry a sword, for every time
you aggressively walk by, I am stabbed.
You are the hardest person to love
I've ever known or ever hope to.

At first our ties were simple, childishly innocent.
Then you began to grow and change, and I
became inspired by the woman that emerged.
I looked at you with passion. Not for sex
but overpoweringly generally so.
This you demanded, and I thought
the passion lingered in your stare, as well.
But could I know? The woman that emerged
was mystery in costume.
