Research FundingSTEPMT provides additional funding to the Undergraduate Research Council in order to increase the number of student research awards given out each semester. The URC offers awards at two different levels of student involvement.
Research Assistant
This entry level position will introduce students to the research environment. Students are expected to assist with the acquisition of data, and make observations and notes. The grant is primarily intended for inexperienced (usually freshmen & sophomore) students. Research Assistants will be paid $500 to assist upper division students or faculty members with their research project and will be expected to write a brief report on the experience.
Research Scholar
These students will be responsible for conducting independent research with guidance from a faculty mentor. They will be directly involved in every step of the research process, from formulating the hypothesis and testing the prediction, to writing the final paper. If warranted by the research project the Scholars may request supplies ($300 maximum). Research Scholars will receive $1000 to support them while they conduct the research, and their faculty mentor will receive $500 for guiding them through the process.
