Using MTSU’s Information Technology for DSPS0800

What do I access for what and how do I get on them/it?

The Study Skill Help Page

This is the homepage for the learning strategies course. It has your syllabus (which is usually more up to date than your hard copy), test reviews, links to power points used in class, links to things you will need for the course, and other supplementary materials.
You can access it on any computer-anywhere- with this URL(internet address)
http://www.mtsu.edu/~studskl/

E-mail

As a student, you have an email account at MTSU. All email sent by your professors and other school information uses this account.
You can access your MTSU e-mail (often called Frank account because it is served by a computer named “Frank”) in several ways, but first you must set a password.
To set password, go to the help page above. Toward to top you will see a link to Instructions for Activating Your MTSUComputer Account . You may link directly to the instructions at http://www.mtsu.edu/~studskl/password.html
Read all of these directions BEFORE you set your password. Frank is very picky about what your password is. Remember Frank is CASE sensitive.
Your address for anyone who wants to send email to you is your user name assigned to you—your initials and a number and letter—plus @mtsu.eduscb2e @mtsu.edu
Now you are ready to use your email in one of several ways
Webmail:
The URL for webmail is http://www.mtsu.edu/webmail
There is also a direct link on the Study Skills Help Page.
You will be prompted to enter your user name—scb2e—do NOT include @mtsu.edu
You will then be asked to put in your password—the one you created probably something like SCH918bd combination of lower case, upper case letters and numbers
You can use Webmail to check your email anywhere in world.

PipelineMT

You can access the pipeline by linking from the MTSU homepage or the Study Skills Help Page.
This secure site provides MTSU students, faculty and staff with Intranet and Internet services. Here you can check e-mail, register for courses, explore the Web, check your personal data and calendar, and much more.
Your login is the same as for Webmail sch2d.
Your password  is your WebMT/TRAM PIN (also known as PAC or FAC) a four-digit #—probably your birth month and day
The first time you use the e-mail section of the pipeline, it will ask you for your email user password( SCH918bd). After the first time, it won’t ask you again.
One option you have on Pipeline is to send all your email accounts to one place.

PipelineMT

In addition to using the pipeline for email, you can create a personal online calendar, chat with students in your class, register for classes, access your personal data and much more. (Eventually the plan is to eliminate all other passwords so that all you need is the 4-digit pipeline password.)

Web CT

Web CT is an additional and secure home base for this course. Primarily you will use Web CT to access practice test and your test scores after a test.
The login for Web CTis the same (sch2e) as your other logins: your password  is your PAC code (same as Pipeline. In fact you must now long on to Web CT through the Pipeline.E mail sent to and from Web CT stays win that site.
There is a log out button on the top of the screen. It is important that you log out..

Course Syllabus

Your course syllabus is accessed from the Study Skills Help Page by clicking on Link to Syllabus Link to Syllabus

Searching the Web

Both Microsoft Explorer and Netscape are used as browsers on campus. There are literally thousands of search engines. The one I use most often is Googlehttp://www.google.com
Others you may be familiar with are Yahoo, HotBot, WebCrawler, Excite, and Lycos.
These are easily accessible on the Pipeline or by typing in the URL

Using Campus Computers

For a list of labs where computers are available and hours of operation, use at this link. http://www.mtsu.edu/infotech/index.html
The Computer Science University Computer Lab is in this building KOM 350,351, and 360.
The College of Business Computer Lab (137 S Business Aerospace Building), the Learning Resource Center Lab, and the Library also keep long hours. The Developmental Studies Writing Lab in Peck Hall, the Developmental Studies Math Lab in SAG, and the Reading Lab are also convenient places for computer use although they won’t be open as many hours.
Dr. Hopper’s emailchopper@mtsu.edu ( If you use Webmail it is not necessary to be the @mtsu.edu.)
If you have any questions about any of this or anything in the course, e mail me.
