Strategies for Essay Exams
1. Make sure that you understand what you are being asked to do.
2. If possible, turn the question into a thesis statement. Example: If the question asks you to discuss the stages in the writing process, your thesis statement might read: “There are five main stages in the writing process.
3. To insure that you answer all parts of the question, underline or circle key words, and number the parts asked for in the question.
