Which Database? |
First you will be asked to define database. Our library uses several different electronic databases:1. Voyager the on-line computer catalog, 2. General One File for general periodical articles , 3.the Research Gateway(Subject Area Databases), and 4.Lexis Nexis (one of the newspaper data bases. Of course, 5.the Internet is also a valuable database. . You will be given a situation where you need information and asked to identify the most useful data base to use. For example: You need to find an article about the Russian space Mir. Or, for a psychology class, you need to identify ways to measure intelligence. Finding Resources |
As you come in the testing room, you will draw a subject from the "hat". Using that subject you will be asked to find a book, a periodical article, a newspaper article, and an internet article. You will use the computers in the classroom so that you will need to know how to access whatever you need from there. On the next page is a copy of the test page so that you can practice. |
Steps for Systematic Research |
You will be asked to recall some details about the steps for a systematic approach to research. (see pages 260-263 or 2nd set of questions on the summary) |
