About the President
Dr. Michael D. Allen became Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies at Middle Tennessee State University on March 1, 2007. He was previously Associate Vice President for Research at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, for six years. Prior to holding that position, he was Director of the Lockheed Martin Operations Office in Amarillo, Texas. He served for two years as Senior Technical Advisor on Chemical Weapons Demilitarization in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon. Prior to that, Dr. Allen managed large research programs on nuclear reactor safety at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, for 14 years. He has also conducted inhalation toxicology research at three other Department of Energy research laboratories: the Lovelace Inhalation Toxicology Research Institute in Albuquerque, NM, the Laboratory for Energy-related Health Research in Davis, CA, and Battelle Pacific Northwest National Laboratories in Richland, Washington. Dr. Allen received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, and his Ph.D. from the University of California in Davis, CA. In addition, he also holds a graduate certificate in Engineering Management from the University of California in Los Angeles.
