What is TECTA?

TECTA is the first statewide systematic early childhood training and professional system in the nation administered by higher education to include orientation through advanced degree programs.

The primary goals of TECTA are:

  • to improve the quality of child care for children
  • to improve access for Tennessee child care providers to qualify for early childhood education courses by providing articulated certificate and degree preparation programs
  • to establish a statewide training and professional recognition system to support and enhance the qualifications of early childhood personnel

Through TECTA, eligible child care providers receive:

  • Training
Free orientation training provided by trainers who are educated and experienced in the field of early childhood education.
  • Tuition Support
Tuition support for early childhood academic courses that provide academic preparation for the CDA credential assessment process.
  • Financial Support
As funding allows, eligible students earning their AAS, Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degrees in early childhood education or licensure may receive financial support. Support may also include scholarships toward CDA credential or assistance with CDA renewal costs. Any Tennessee resident who works in a state regulated child care facility in Tennessee is eligible to apply for CDA scholarships.
  • Empowerment
Training will empower you and allow you to choose your academic and professional goals.
  • Networking
Networking opportunities with other child care providers are provided.

TECTA is sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS). TECTA is approved by DHS and the Tennessee Board of Regents.
