When incidents arise in the workplace which can potentially lead to disciplinary action, both labor and management representatives must be adequately prepared to address those situations and take whatever action is necessary. Making the wrong decision based on erroneous facts can lead to disaster for both labor and management leaders. This session will provide those individuals with the tools necessary to conduct fact-finding investigations and make decisions which can be legally supported in the long run.

U.S. Supreme Court Puts Discrimination Claims in the Grievance/Arbitration Process: The ABC's of Employment Discrimination

In April 2009, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the parties to a collective bargaining agreement can include federal employment discrimination claims in the agreement, and that those claims are subject to arbitration. As such, the inclusion of the this type of language may become a subject of bargaining and also form the basis for grievances. Considering this potential, both labor and management representatives, particularly labor, need to have a basic understanding of federal and state discrimination law. This program will provide just that.

Labor and Management Compliance with "New" Americans with Disabilities Act

Disabilities in the workplace present special challenges to the parties’ administration of the collective bargaining agreement, whether the disability comes from a work-related or personal condition. These challenges have now reached a different dimension with the amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act, which greatly expanded the coverage of the law. This seminar will address those changes, and how labor and management leaders can productively and legally adapt.

THE ABC'S OF WORKERS' COMPENSATION FOR STEWARDS & SUPERVISORS

Injuries in the workplace are an unfortunate occurrence, despite the best efforts of labor and management. The steps stewards and supervisors take at the outset can go a long way towards providing appropriate medical care and in preventing future accidents. This training will provide supervisors and stewards with the necessary skills on how to effectively deal with workers’ compensation injuries, from medical care to disability benefits.
