National Field Directors Forum Minutes, ATE 2004, Dallas, Texas
National Field Directors Forum President Mike Perl of Kansas State University called the annual business meeting to order on Monday, February 16, 2004 at 4:15 P.M. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Dallas, Texas.
President Perl welcomed Field Directors and shared information regarding membership. Proposals for the Summer ATE Conference must be submitted by March 15, 2004. The format may be accessed through the ATE web page, which is ATE1.org. Field Directors attending the forum were provided a free copy of the book: Teaching & Learning in the New Millennium edited by Dr. Barbara Day and published by Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.
Marlene Bachman, from the University of Montana requested a committee of interested Field Directors be formed to review the proposed “Case Studies with Legal Implications for Field Directors.” Tammie Brown, Middle Tennessee State University , provided information for nominating student teachers for “The National Student Teacher of the Year Award for 2003-2004.”
The Winner for 2002-2003, Marta Galindo was introduced and spoke to Forum members.
President Perl asked for a committee to volunteer to review and update the NFDF’s By-laws.
Janice Thompson, University of Southern Mississippi, will serve as chair. Other committees to be established are:

During the Summer NFDFmeeting 2003 members attending proposed awarding the Student Teacher of the Year $250.00 This was presented as a motion at the business meeting in Dallas. Ellie Herman, University of Iowa, amended the motion to increase the award to $300.00. The motion was seconded by Teresa Washut Heck, St. Cloud State University. The motion passed.
Tammie Brown, Middle Tennessee State University and former president elect will begin serving as President following this conference. The following NFDF officers were elected:

Following the election of officers there were three presentations by NFDF members.

A subsequent meeting of the NFDF was held on Tuesday, February 17th from 4:15-6:15. At this time an additional presentation was made by Linda Oldenkamp, South Dakota Board of Regents on Selecting High Quality Teacher Candidates. Discussion followed on many issues of common concern to Forum members such as the consequences of NCLB, evaluation of cooperating teachers and training for field directors.
