  1. Did you know that all MTSU students are admitted to all regular home games FREE with their valid ID cards?

  6. Did you know students can be Recreation officials, get paid, work flexible hours and have fun?
  7. Did you know the Recreation Center is open 7 days a week and provides a variety of healthy leisure choices?
  8. Did you know in order to check out material in the library you must have a current ID?
  9. Did you know there is some type of event at the Tennessee Livestock Center, on the MTSU campus, almost every weekend and most of the events are FREE?

  17. Did you know the walnut trees between Cope and Peck are said to be descendants of walnut trees at George Washington’s Mount Vernon? The story goes that many years ago a groundskeeper visited Mount Vernon and picked up some walnuts, which he brought back to Murfreesboro and planted on campus.
  18. Did you know the tall cedar trees just back of the Cope Building were part of what once was a row of cedar trees which defined the south end of the campus? Over the years the weather has ravaged the line of trees, and no doubt some were removed when the Cope Building was constructed.
  19. Did you know in 1911 there were four original buildings?
  20. Did you know in 1911 what we now know as Kirksey Old Main housed all administrative offices and classrooms?
  21. Did you know the current Alumni Center (set back and to the left of Kirksey) was the dining hall, later the cafeteria, and finally a classroom building which over the years housed the music department, industrial studies, aerospace, and photography as well as perhaps other disciplines? Wings were added over the years, but when it was abandoned for educational purposes, the Alumni Association petitioned President Sam H. Ingram to be allowed to restore it as a focal point for alumni activities.
  22. Did you know the new library will be MTSU’s fourth? The first small collection of books was housed in Kirksey Old Main when school opened in 1911. The second was a lovely little building, Murfee Hall, which sat in the space Peck Hall now occupies and which housed the English Department. When Todd Library was built in the 50’s, it became the third library in MTSU’s history.
  23. Did you know MTSU football was played behind the Wiser-Patten Science Building? John T. Bragg (class of ’40) describes MTSU football in the 30’s: The field was behind the Wiser-Patten Science Building, roughly where the Davis Science is now located. There were no stands or bleachers. Spectators simply gathered on the sidelines and walked up and down the field, following the game with their feet as well as their eyes.
  24. Did you know John T. Bragg, (class of ’40) as a long-time Representative in the state legislature, helped gain funding for many of MTSU’s more recent buildings? Working with former Dean of Mass Communication Edward M. Kimbrell, Bragg helped secure the funding for the Mass communication Building which now bares his name. This seems especially appropriate since in his college years Bragg was editor of the student newspaper, Sidelines, and had a long career as a publisher and in the printing industry.

  34. Did you know MTSU has a First Year Experience Program for students with 29 or less hours earned and it is located in Cummings Hall? Floors 2, 3, and 4 are for females and 5, 6, and 7 are for males.
  35. Did you know the School of Nursing has a Women’s Clinic for staff, students and families of the MTSU community on Wednesdays between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.?
