Maintenance > Creating A Backup

You can backup your course at any stage of development. After you create a backup, we recommend that you download it to your computer for safekeeping.

Why make a backup? If you don't like the changes you've made to the course or if you need to move the course to a different WebCT server, you can upload and restore from the backup.

  1. Click on the Control Panel Button
  2. Click on Manage Course
  3. Click on the Create backup link.
  4. In the text box, type a brief description for the backup course. This description will appear in the backup listing table.
Note: The backup course's filename is created automatically.
  5. Click the Create button.
  6. Wait for WebCT to complete the backup process.
  7. Click the Continue button
  8. Your backup will appear in the Backup Courses Area.

You will now need to download this backup to your computer for safe keeping. If you do not download your backup, and your course gets turned off, the server administrator will have to go through the backup files to locate your course, turn it back on, and you will then download your backup.

How to Download the backup to your computer
Note: The time required to backup a course depends on both the size of the course and the speed of the server. Large courses may take over 10 minutes to back up. Please consult with your system administrator if backups seem to take a long time to complete.

  1. Down load Your backup to Your Computer
Choose the backup file you wish to download by clicking its selection button.
  2. Click the download button in the Actions area.
  3. The File Download window will display. Click the Save button.
  4. Choose the location to save your file and click the Save button.
  5. Wait for the file to save to your computer.
  6. Click the Close button when it displays.
