Student Grading Tips > Managing Columns

    1. Add columns

      1. Columns are automatically made by the quiz tool and drop box.
Tip: Be aware! You need to plan your quiz and drop box assignment names carefully. If you change their names in the quiz or drop box tool the associated column name in the grade area does not change. This can be very confusing. If you rename a quiz or an assignment immediately go to the associated column and rename it also!!!
    2. Column types
      1. Make a numeric column for a quiz, test, or paper.
      2. Selection Box – Displays a drop-down box in which you choose one of several choices that you type in when you set up the column.
        1. Create the column specifying the Selection Box column type
        2. Select the column and click on the column set-up button. Type in the choices that will appear in the drop-down box.
        3. Examples:
          1. Pass / Fail
          2. Below Average / Average / Above Average
          3. Attended / Did not attend
      3. Alphanumeric - pass/fail or comments that you type in
        1. Indicate course section number that student is enrolled in if you combined course sections into one shell.
        2. Note which student in your class is making up an incomplete grade from a previous semester.
      4. Calculated – formula - you can use any grading scheme you want. We will just average the grades using a calculation column and then use the Letter Grade column to do the comparison.
        1. Total points column.
        2. Points accumulated to date column.
      5. Letter Grade – comparison to a column such as the total points column.
      6. Text - Free flow - comment
    3. Column Settings
